Australia's institute for maritime education, training and research

The internationally-renowned Australian Maritime College (AMC) is Australia’s national institute for maritime and maritime-related education, training and research. It is one of seven founding members of the International Association of Maritime Universities and is a specialist institute of the University of Tasmania (UTAS).

Installation Background

AMC previously used seven lamp-type projectors for its maritime simulation. This limited them to using the most basic visuals, so they wanted to replace the system with projectors that would give them better images. Panasonic Australia proposed the PT-RQ13K 3-chip DLP・Laser Projector and they decided to use it. The PT-RQ13K is compatible with 4K+ resolution and delivers bright, high-quality images. The 4K+ resolution also made it possible to reduce the number of projectors from seven to five. Since the introduction was decided upon in December and installation took place the second week of January, the turnaround was very fast. For the installation, Geometry Manager Pro Software (ET-UK20) and the Auto Screen Adjustment Upgrade Kit (ET-CUK10) were used, which made it quick and easy without the need for complicated settings. In terms of maintenance, the laser light source eliminated the previous need to replace lamps once a year, greatly reducing both labor and expense.
