Real-Time Event Monitoring

Panasonic provided its Professional LCD Displays in a variety of venues used at Tokyo 2020, sharing information with viewers as it happened. Although few spectators were in attendance, the displays played an important role during competition events by allowing athletes, teams, officials, and media to grasp complex situations at a glance thanks to wide viewing angles and high image brightness.

The Izu MTB Course in Izu City played host to a fiercely contested Cycling Mountain Bike competition. As one of the few events spectators were permitted to attend, Cycling Mountain Bike attracted fans who lined sections of course to cheer their favorite athletes. The 4.1 km off-road course had an elevation range of
150 m and was more difficult than previous competitions at the Olympic Games. Panasonic’s TH-47LFX60 Outdoor LCD Display located in the mixed zone near the finish line provided real-time information to media. With its high 1,200 cd/m2 brightness, the weatherproof TH-47LFX60 provided excellent visibility even in direct sunlight. It played an essential role in updating the media as they waited for athletes to finish their races.

Sailing at the Olympic Games has a history going back more than 100 years. Constructed on a small offshore island for use at Tokyo 1964, Enoshima Yacht Harbour once again played host to the Olympic and Paralympic Games sailing events with views to Mt. Fuji providing a beautiful backdrop for spectators observing the contest through binoculars from nearby breakwater walls. Panasonic Professional Outdoor LCD Display punched through bright ambient light to provide high-visibility images and worked faultlessly despite the heat and salt air to keep media updated on race progress.

Race Walking was held on 1 km (Men’s) and 2 km (Women’s) courses, finishing at the park. The competition drew a sizable crowd with many locals turning out to catch a glimpse of the action. As with other events, Panasonic installed its high-brightness Professional Outdoor LCD Display in the mixed zone adjacent to the finish line, allowing spectators and waiting media to clearly follow the race in real time.
