BACKGROUND

Replacing projection equipment for high-quality conference spaces

The Osaka International Convention Center has installed new Panasonic projectors in its main hall and conference rooms. Osaka International Convention Center is a waterfront international conference center located in Nakanoshima, the heart of the water metropolis of Osaka. Mr. Haga of the Osaka International Convention Center Corporation explained that the center aims to be one of Asia’s leading urban MICE facilities to contribute to the development and internationalization of Osaka, so they wanted to introduce state-of-the-art equipment for their customers. “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become more difficult to pack customers closer to the front of the room, and harder to dim the lights inside the venue so that events can be broadcasted and streamed. This led us to consider installing projectors that could be used without dimming the lighting in the venue.” (Haga)

REASON to IMPLEMENT

A product that does not require dimming lights

The convention center has been using Panasonic projectors, and based on our track record and their trust in us, they considered installing Panasonic projectors again. The main hall, with its impressive large screen, is a large theater-style conference room that can accommodate approximately 2,700 people. The PT-RQ50K was chosen to project images without dimming the lighting in the venue, with a maximum brightness of 50,000 lm. “To maintain the superiority of the conference center, we need to introduce high-spec equipment. One of the factors we considered was that Panasonic projectors were the most advanced equipment and were used for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, but we also took into account environmental considerations and specifications. The end result was that we decided to install Panasonic projectors again.” (Haga)

EFFECTS

High brightness, 4K-resolution image projection that makes text easy to see

In the main hall, images are projected on a large screen using the PT-RQ50K with the highest brightness. Mr. Haga said that the attendees at a large academic conference held after the installation were surprised at the brightness of the images in the main hall. Since the presentations were projected entirely onto a large screen, 4K resolution really helped improve the visibility of fine data, text, and photos. “In recent years, the format of meetings has changed to a hybrid of on-site and streaming. Streaming required a high brightness projector because the venue lights cannot be dimmed as much. With the PT-RQ50K, we could see the screen clearly without dimming the lighting in the venue.” (Haga)

Replacing with a high brightness model supports a wide variety
of uses

In the conference rooms, the PT-MZ780W (7,000 lm) and PT-VMZ50 (5,000 lm) were adopted to replace the previous 5,800 lm and 3,500 lm projectors. The system is bright enough to be used without dimming the lighting of the venue, and is flexible enough to be used for both streaming and on-site events. The PT-RQ35K (30,500 lm) was also introduced as a mobile projector for use in the event hall and medium-sized conference room. This projector has nearly the same footprint as the previously used PT-DZ21K2 (20,000 lm), so it can be used with the same elevating cart that was already in use, and achieves a higher brightness. The lens can be changed as needed, such as for projection from the far end of the event hall or from the center.

FUTURE OUTLOOK

State-of-the-art equipment enhances the appeal of
conference venues

“We hope to continue to introduce state-of-the-art equipment for use by our customers. It is our goal to enhance the attractiveness of the entire area in cooperation with various companies in Nakanoshima and Osaka, including Panasonic, as well as other related companies,” he said, describing his thoughts on how to make the conference center more attractive.
