Using the USB Connect Control Function

By using the USB Connect Control function, you can connect the device and a projector with a Lightning to USB Cable or USB cable and access the projector’s Web Control screen without performing authentication from the device’s Web browser and then control the projector and acquire its information.

Basic flow for using the USB Connect Control function

Setting the projector to the standby state, or turning on its power and setting it to the projection state

For a projector that has the [STANDBY] item in the [PROJECTOR SETUP] menu, the USB Connect Control function cannot be used in the standby state if [STANDBY] is set to [ECO]. To use the USB Connect Control function in the standby state, set [STANDBY] to [NORMAL] in advance.

Connecting the projector and the device with a Lightning to USB Cable or USB cable

Connect the projector's <USB> terminal and the device with a Lightning to USB Cable or USB cable.

Notice

  • When inserting the connector of the Lightning to USB Cable or USB cable into the projector, pay attention to the orientation of the terminal so as not to damage it.
  • Directly connect the Lightning to USB Cable or USB cable to the projector's <USB> terminal without using a USB extension cable or USB hub.
  • Be careful not to insert the connector of the Lightning to USB Cable or USB cable into the projector's <DC OUT> terminal. The USB Connect Control function cannot be used with the <DC OUT> terminal.
  • You can insert connector of the Lightning to USB Cable or USB cable even when the projector's power is turned on.

Launching of application software

Tap the Smart Projector Control icon to launch the application software.

Top screen

When Smart Projector Control starts up, the [Top] screen appears.
Tap the [USB CONNECT CONTROL], [NFC], [REGISTRATION], [CONTROL] or [SETUP] button to perform the intended operation.

USB CONNECT CONTROL
The projector's Web control screen appears.
The Web Control screen allows you to set and adjust the projector and check the projector information from the device.
NFC
Displays the screen for using the NFC function.
The projector setting information can be read and written by using the NFC function.
  • For a device not compatible with the NFC function, the [NFC] button will be grayed out and cannot be tapped.

REGISTRATION

Displays the projector search screen.
You can register a new projector to be operated from the smartphone or edit the registered projector information.

CONTROL

Displays the projector selection screen.
You can operate the registered projector.
For details on how to use CONTROL, please refer to Select and Operate the Projector.

SETUP

Displays the settings screen.
You can set the projector's Auto Registration function or the device’s sound and vibration.
For details on how to use SETUP, please refer to Select and Operate the Projector.

Accessing the Web Control screen of the projector

To access the projector’s Web Control screen, you need to set Internet sharing (USB tethering with an Android device) to “Enable”.
Tap the [USB CONNECT CONTROL] button in the [Top] screen.

  • Restrictions may apply to the Internet sharing (USB tethering with an Android device) function depending on your subscription details. For details, refer to the instruction manual of your device and check the details of your subscription with the mobile phone operator.
  • If Internet sharing (USB tethering with an Android device) is set to “Enable”, go to step (4).
  • If it is set to “Disable”, configure the settings from step (1).

1) Tap the [OK] button or [Cancel] button.

  • If you tapped the [OK] button, the device's [Settings] screen (Hotspot & tethering screen with an Android device) appears.
  • If you tapped the [Cancel] button, the [Top] screen reappears.

2) Set Personal Hotspot (USB tethering with an Android device) to [On].

For iPhone

  • Tap [Personal Hotspot] in the [Settings] screen, and set [Allow Others to Join] to [On]. Internet sharing is set to “Enable”. When communication between the projector and device begins using Internet sharing, the wired LAN function of the projector is set to “DISABLE”.

For Android devices

  • Set [USB tethering] in the [Hotspot & tethering] screen to “On”. USB tethering is set to “Enable”. When communication between the projector and device begins using USB tethering, the wired LAN function of the projector is set to “DISABLE”.

3) Return to the [Top] screen, and tap the [USB CONNECT CONTROL] button.

  • Confirmation screen appears.

4) Tap the [OK] button or [Cancel] button.

  • If you tapped the [OK] button, the [Search] screen appears and communication is performed with the projector connected by the Lightning to USB Cable or USB cable. Then, the Web Control screen appears. There is no need for authentication.
  • If you tapped the [Cancel] button, the Settings screen of the device appears. Set Internet sharing (USB tethering with an Android device) to [Off].

Notice

  • The following browsers support this function.
    iOS: Safari, Android: Chrome
  • When using the wired LAN function of the projector, set the device's Internet sharing (USB tethering with an Android device) to “Disable” or disconnect the Lightning to USB Cable or USB cable.
  • Immediately after the main power of the projector is turned on, communication between the device and projector is not performed properly, so even if you tap the [USB CONNECT CONTROL] button, “Projector was not found.” is displayed and access to the projector’s Web Control screen may not be possible. In that case, first set Internet sharing (USB tethering with an Android device) to “Disable” and then set it to "Enable" after at least 60 seconds have elapsed since the main power of the projector was turned on.
  • The USB Connect Control function can be switched between “ENABLE” and “DISABLE” in the settings on the projector unit side. When the setting on the projector unit side is “DISABLE”, even if you tap the [USB CONNECT CONTROL] button while the device's Internet sharing (USB tethering with an Android device) is “Enable”, “Projector was not found.” is displayed, and the projector’s Web Control screen is not displayed. For details on the setting method, refer to the Operating Instructions of your projector.
  • When using the USB Connect Control function after the device is connected to equipment other than a projector using the Internet sharing function (USB tethering with an Android device), even if you tap the [USB CONNECT CONTROL] button, “Projector was not found.” is displayed, and the display of the projector’s Web Control screen may not be possible. In that case, use the USB Connect Control function after first turning the power of the device off and then back on.
  • If the software version of this application software is lower than 3.0, the USB Connect Control function is not available. To use the USB Connect Control function, update the software version to the latest one.
